Dignitana’s business concept is to develop, manufacture and market a medical device primarily used for scalp cooling, to eliminate or greatly reduce chemotherapy induced hair loss.
The company focuses on the patented product DigniCap®, which counteracts hair loss during chemotherapy. The product has been used by thousands of patients, and during 2009 the company launched a new generation of the system on the international market.
A subsidiary BrainCool AB was established in late 2010 with the aim to expand the field of use of the Dignitana technology for medical cooling. The subsidiary is developing technologies for brain cooling for the use in stroke , cardiac arrest patients and neonatal care.
Within stroke therapy, brain ischemia (reduction of blood flow to the brain) is an injury that results from reduction of blood flow to the brain → rapid brain cell death (<5 minutes) occurs due to starvation of oxygen to the brain.
Mild cooling of the brain – just a few degrees − is the most promising brain protective treatment available.
Over 10 years ago, the ever present issue of chemotherapy-induced hair loss for cancer patients led the Swedish oncology nurse Yvonne Olofsson to develop the DigniCap™ with assistance from the clinic where she worked. Dignitana is involved in clinical evaluations/trials/studies Worldwide, e.g. Germany, Japan, UK, Russian Federation, Sweden, Spain and France.
The company is listed at Stockholm stock exchange NASDAQ OMX First North since December 1, 2011. The number of the shares in the company are till 11 678 862 shares. Please visist www.dignitana.com for more information.
