Scalp cooling can be very effective in preventing or reducing loss of hair. But you will not know how well it will work for you until you try it. The results from a number of studies performed with the DigniCap™ system have reported more than 80% success rate (Lundgren-Eriksson 1999, Henriksen 2003, Ridderheim 2002, Byachov 2006, Kobayashi 2008). In these studies, more than 228 patients were treated and 204 of them did not need wigs. The DigniCap™ system is particularly effective in chemotherapy regimens with anthracyclines and taxanes. More than 4000 patients have been treated with the DigniCap™ system. In a recent post-market surveillance report, data of 2249 patients treated with our system were collected from 20 clinics in Scandinavia in which 85% of the patients did not need wigs.

Despite scalp cooling, some patients may find that their hair thins slightly. Unfortunately, some patients who have scalp cooling will still lose their hair. Some patients may lose some hair after the first treatment but manage to keep their hair throughout the rest of the treatment. Some patients may find the cold temperature uncomfortable the first time but get used to the treatment after subsequent sessions. Thus, it is important to encourage the patient to try at least a couple of treatments first before assessing the outcome.
