Scalp cooling can be very effective in preventing or reducing the loss of your hair. But you will not know how well it will work for you until you try it. The results from a number of studies performed with the DigniCap™ system have reported more than 80% success rate (Lundgren-Eriksson 1999, Henriksen 2003, Ridderheim 2002, Byachov 2006, Kobayashi 2008). In these studies, more than 228 patients were treated and 204 of them did not need wigs. The DigniCap™ system is particularly effective in chemotherapy regimens with anthracyclines and taxanes. So far, more than 4000 patients have been treated with the DigniCap™ system . In a recent post-market surveillance report, the data of 2249 patients treated with our system were collected from 20 clinics in Scandinavia. The success rate of the DigniCap™ system was 83.5%.
Despite scalp cooling, you may find that your hair thins slightly. Unfortunately, some people who have scalp cooling will still lose their hair. Some people only lose some hair after the first treatment but managed to keep their hair throughout the rest of the treatment. Thus, you may want to undergo at least a few treatments first before knowing the actual outcome.
Scalp cooling protects only the hair on your scalp. Body hair (including eyelashes, eyebrows, beards and moustaches, chest hair and pubic hair) may be lost.
If you are interested in scalp cooling you will need to discuss this with your doctor or nurse, who can advise whether it is suitable for you.
